“Youth Talk” Comes To Croydon, Saturday 19th September In light of the overwhelming response to the London series of “Youth Talk” filmed discussion events produced by the Youth Digital Network (www.youthdigitalnetwork.com), we are pleased to announce that the Croydon leg of this series will take place on Saturday 19th September. The venue will be: The Day Lewis Centre, 324 Bensham Lane, (off Brigstock Rd),Thornton Heath, CR7 7ER.
The overall aim of the Youth Digital Network is to deliver programming and training in television and radio broadcasting. We also want to use digital media technology to help young people engage in issues that affect their daily lives and communities. With our help they can learn to question institutions of authority and to be a part of the process that seeks solutions to areas of daily concern.
This event is also the launch of Grapevyne Stories, a Croydon based initiative that seeks to provide a platform for the development of disadvantaged local young people
Darren Gregg, Director of MAC Agency UK said, “This is very exciting for us as it means we can reach even more Croydon youths with our project. We can help them to discuss positive alternatives to the current negativity in their life and their issues”
Philmon Smith, project leader of SABATHON said, “The Digital Network is another example to show everyone that Croydon youths can work together. It will also be a great platform to highlight all our different talents”
With the work of the volunteers of the MAC Agency UK, SABATHON and the Youth Digital Network, this will be an excellent opportunity for Croydon Libraries, Croydon Drop in, Croydon council representatives, politicians and local role models to engage with Croydon youths. We will be networking with a range of Croydon based youth agencies to make sure we reach those individuals who may be able to inspire our young people to become active participants in the development of their communities.
The launch event will be recorded for future broadcast live, courtesy of the technical support of www.youthdigitalnetwork.com. This is a youth based digital broadcasting initiative who will also be looking for new presenters on the day for their future programming. Kat from Choice FM & MTV will be helping us with that search and will be amongst the panellists for the youth discussions.
At this “Youth Talk” event, young people in the audience will be able to put a range of questions to the panel of representatives in a talk show format. This will become a part of the regular longer term programming to show that Croydon youths can engage in local politics as well as the usual music and entertainment issues
Following this event there will be regular media training courses, youth based tv and radio shows and broadcasting projects that local Croydon young people can get involved with.
